Project Idea: The Digital Waiter

Especially in times of a pandemic, currently under Covid-19, it is important to stay as safe as possible and to avoid harmful influences. Since Covid-19 is a virus transmitted by droplet infection through the air, the most important hygiene guideline of the international ministry of health demands keeping human distance.


If you have been in contact with others, you should follow appropriate hygiene advice. This includes frequently washing your hands and wearing a mask in public.

The pandemic affects every aspect of public life, from shopping in the supermarket, to the exercise of one's profession, to standing in line at the doctor. In this paper we will address this problem of unnecessary human contact whilst waiting, whether in an active queue or staying in the waiting room of your doctor.




The idea is the digitization of waiting, that is to say, to introduce a "digital waiting room". In the digital waiting room, the patient can queue up online, display his waiting time and be called up by the doctor. This enables the patient to use his time more wisely and arrive at the doctor’s office precisely for his appointment. This should reduce critical interpersonal contact of the patient with other waiting patients to a minimum. Therefore, the patient should no longer spend time in the waiting room, waiting for the doctor's call and thus considerably relieve the load and infection risk in the conventional waiting room.


It is noteworthy that the digital waiting room not only offers advantages during COVID-19. Even without a pandemic, the advantages of the digital waiting room remain, as the digital waiting room reduces the danger of infection and introduces other non-medical, organizational advantages.
